The harbour area of Pafos is well known for its fish tavernas where the day's catch is served in picturesque surroundings. The Fort was built by the Ottoman Turks in the period 1571 - 1878. It is well worth a visit and has spectacular views from the roof. |

|
| There are ancient sites and ruins around almost every corner in Pafos. Nestling amongst the tavernas you may find an old church or crumbling ruin. | |

Should
you choose to hire a car, the beautiful unspoilt Akamas Peninsular is to
the north-west of Pafos. To explore the peninsular itself you will need
a 4x4 as the driving is mostly "off-road". Here you will find
deserted beaches and wonderful wildlife. Lara Beach is a Nature Reserve
and is off-limits in June and August when the turtles swim ashore to lay
their eggs. The Akamas is excellent walking country but this is more
pleasant in Winter and Spring when it is cooler. The golden rule in
Akamas is "take only memories, leave only footprints". The
towns of Polis and Latch, also in this region are worth a visit.
